Anything To Help The Fathers Out There

The Joys of an Expectant Father

We are currently in the 29th week of our pregnancy, and last night I had one of those amazing experiences which only an expectant father gets to enjoy.  It happened at about 3am in the morning.

There is a particular foetal position my partner sometimes sleeps in.  She will be facing away from me and be at just the perfect curl that I can roll over, put my hand on her pregnant tummy and be comfortable enough to go to sleep.  Last night was one of those nights when ”all the stars aligned” and I fell asleep in this manner.  Then, at about 3 am, I was woken by someone tapping on the palm of my hand.  It was our unborn child, kicking up a storm within the womb.  This flurry of kicking activity was quite intense.  In moving my hand off my sweetheart’s tummy, I could see the impact of these kicks clearly coming through the surface, yet she slept through it all, blissfully unaware of the commotion which had captivated me.

It only lasted 10 minutes, after which both our baby and I fell back into a deep and very contented sleep.  I can’t help but think this morning how blessed I am, sharing such wonderful and secret moments with my child already, before she is even born.
